How Mother's day came about

Mother's Day is a special time to honor and celebrate the women who have sacrificed so much for their families. But have you ever wondered how this holiday came to be? The history of Mother's Day dates back to ancient times, with roots in the annual spring festival dedicated to Rhea, the Mother of the Gods in Greek mythology. Over time, different cultures and religions adopted their own traditions of honoring motherhood, leading to the modern-day celebration we know today. In the United States, the official recognition of Mother's Day can be traced back to the efforts of Anna Jarvis, who wanted to find a way to honor her own mother's dedication and sacrifice. After her mother's passing in 1905, Anna started a campaign to establish a national holiday to honor all mothers. Her hard work paid off in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. Since then, Mother's Day has become a cherished tradition, with families across the country showing their love and appreciation for the mothers in their lives.

As the tradition of honoring mothers on Mother's Day began to take shape in the early 20th century, people sought out ways to express their appreciation and gratitude for the women who played such an important role in their lives. In those early days, the gifts given to mothers on Mother's Day were often simple tokens of love and affection, but they held great sentimental value. Flowers were a popular gift choice for mothers on Mother's Day. The delicate beauty and sweet fragrance of flowers were seen as a fitting way to show appreciation for all that mothers did. Carnations, in particular, became associated with Mother's Day, with their white petals symbolizing purity and their pink petals representing maternal love. Bouquets of fresh flowers were often presented to mothers as a way to brighten their day and bring a smile to their face. Handmade gifts were also a common choice for Mother's Day presents. Children would often spend hours creating something special for their mothers, whether it be a homemade card decorated with glitter and stickers or a carefully crafted piece of artwork. These handmade gifts were cherished by mothers for the love and effort that went into creating them, and they served as a reminder of the bond between mother and child.

Another popular gift for mothers on Mother's Day was jewelry. Simple pieces such as necklaces, bracelets, or rings were often given as a way to symbolize the enduring connection between a mother and her children. Engraved pieces were especially meaningful, featuring messages of love and gratitude that would be treasured for years to come. Of course, the most precious gift of all on Mother's Day was the gift of time spent together. Whether it was a leisurely brunch out at a favorite restaurant or a cozy afternoon at home, the opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones was always appreciated by mothers. The simple act of being together and showing love and appreciation was often more valuable than any material gift. Overall, the gifts given to mothers on Mother's Day in the early days of the holiday reflected a deep appreciation for the love and sacrifice that mothers make every day. From flowers to handmade gifts to jewelry, each gift was chosen with care and thoughtfulness, intended to convey the special place that mothers held in the hearts of their loved ones. And above all, the gift of time spent together served as a reminder of the importance of family and the bonds that unite us.

Whether it's a bouquet of roses, a field of daisies, or a simple arrangement of tulips, floral cards are a beloved choice for Mother's Day greetings. Another popular card style for Mother's Day is the sentimental and heartfelt message. These cards often feature emotional messages expressing gratitude, love, and appreciation for all that mothers do. With touching words and heartfelt sentiments, these cards are perfect for conveying deep emotions and showing just how much you care. Many people opt for these cards to express sentiments that are hard to put into words, making them a cherished choice for Mother's Day. For those looking to add a touch of humor to their Mother's Day card, funny illustrations are a popular choice. These cards often feature clever puns, witty jokes, and cute illustrations that are sure to bring a smile to any mom's face. Whether it's a quirky cartoon or a playful joke, funny Mother's Day cards add a lighthearted touch to the holiday while still conveying love and appreciation. In recent years, personalized and DIY cards have become increasingly popular for Mother's Day. These cards allow individuals to add a personal touch to their greetings by including photos, drawings, or handwritten messages. By creating a one-of-a-kind card, you can show your mom just how much she means to you and make her feel truly special. Whether it's a handmade card or a customized photo card, personalized greetings are a heartfelt and meaningful way to celebrate Mother's Day. Finally, modern and trendy card styles have also gained popularity for Mother's Day. From sleek and minimalist designs to bold and vibrant patterns, there are countless contemporary card styles to choose from. These cards often feature modern typography, vibrant colors, and chic illustrations that appeal to those looking for a more stylish and fashionable greeting. With unique designs and artistic details, modern Mother's Day cards are a great choice for those wanting to make a statement and send a card that stands out. In conclusion, there are a variety of popular card styles for Mother's Day, each offering a unique way to express love, appreciation, and gratitude to the special moms in our lives. Whether you prefer classic floral designs, sentimental messages, funny illustrations, personalized greetings, or modern styles, there is a Mother's Day card out there to suit every taste and preference. No matter which style you choose, the most important thing is to show your mom just how much she means to you and make her feel loved on this special day.

Happy Wednesday

Happy Wednesday,

I hope your year is off to a good start. For those of you who don't know I am no longer going to be having the DL.ART monthly or Thankful Thursday challenges.
When I started my blog 12 years ago, my intentions were to have it be an Art blog. My blog turned out to be so much more and I am so glad I did what I did for the last 12 years. I have met so many wonderful people along the way, but now I will focus more on my family art and the business end of it.

This month I will be having sales on different items every few days, so make sure to check here and get the coupons on my already low prices.
